Some love stories unfold slowly. Jake and Emily's did not. Tinder in December 2020. A house together by August 2021. A dog called Fig by December 2021. A proposal in October 2022. A baby boy called August in November 2023. A wedding planned for this August, with a honeymoon on a cruise around the Norwegian fjords.
How It Started
Tinder, as Jake puts it with characteristic honesty, as all great 21st century romances start.
What followed was, by any measure, a whirlwind. First meeting in December 2020. A house bought and moved into by August 2021. A dog adopted by December of the same year. The kind of pace that either works completely or does not work at all.
The Moment He Knew
Jake can tell you exactly when he decided he was going to marry Emily. Boxing Day 2021, at his mum's house, surrounded by the whole family.
"Emily got really drunk at my mum's house over Christmas with the whole family and was telling stories making everyone howl with laughter and in that moment I didn't care what anyone thought about her because I thought she was brilliant and thought - yeah, I'm gonna marry that girl".
Finding Ethica Diamonds
Jake has been coming to Cornwall every year since he was born. Since meeting Emily, they have come together every year too. And on one of those trips, exploring around Truro, they came across Ethica Diamonds.
After following us on Instagram and finding out more about our sustainability credentials, Jake knew it was the right place. And when he found out that the Fleur ring could be customised with an amethyst halo - exactly the vintage look he knew Emily would love - the decision was made.

The purchasing process, he says, was easy and wonderful. And when the custom ring was not quite ready in time for the London trip he had planned, we sent a placement ring so the proposal could go ahead exactly as intended.
The Proposal
Emily used to work at Disney World in Orlando. She loves Frozen. So when Jake planned a birthday trip to London, he booked the Royal Box at Frozen the Musical and kept the real purpose of the trip entirely to himself.
As the show ended, he asked a steward to take their photograph. The stage lights came up on them in the Royal Box.
Jake proposed.
He was, he admits, so nervous that he forgot his lines properly. It did not matter even slightly.
She said yes and the theatre cheered!
Emily was, genuinely, completely surprised. Hiding the proposal inside a birthday trip had done exactly what it was supposed to do.
The Ring
The Fleur ring, customised with an amethyst halo. Vintage in feel, personal in story, and exactly what Emily would love.
We think Jake got it exactly right.
What Came Next
As they began planning the wedding, they found out Emily was pregnant. Their son August arrived in November 2023.
The honeymoon is a cruise around the Norwegian fjords.
