Lochlan had the ring. He had no plan. He was cycling home from the office with it in his bag on a sunny afternoon, hoping inspiration would strike before he got through the front door.
It did not strike immediately. But the weather was lovely. And there was a park.
The Ethical Question
Before any of this, there was a problem Lochlan needed to solve. He had a longstanding issue with mined diamonds and was not prepared to be part of what he considered an ethically dubious industry. But Charlotte wanted a diamond ring. And he wanted to give her one.
Reconciling those two things took some research. Eventually his search led him to lab grown gemstones, and then to Ethica Diamonds.
He was impressed by the range of styles and the quality of the stones. He was particularly impressed by the price - which meant he could buy a genuinely beautiful ring without compromising on what he was willing to spend. The ethical question had an answer. Now he just needed a proposal plan.
The Plan That Did Not Exist
Lochlan had been thinking about how to propose for some time. He wanted it to be a surprise - which presented an immediate challenge.
Charlotte's much cleverer than me.
He had considered, and dismissed, something obvious like a trip to Paris. He had hoped that inspiration would arrive in the time between ordering the ring and having it delivered.
It did not.
On the day the ring arrived at his office, he cycled home with it in his bag and still no concrete plan. The weather was sunny. Crystal Palace park was nearby. A picnic, he decided, would be perfect.
The Proposal
Picture the scene. Lochlan and Charlotte, having a lovely picnic at Crystal Palace park on a sunny afternoon. Lochlan, nervous, with the ring in his pocket. The moment arriving.
He asked Charlotte to close her eyes.
Charlotte, who knows Lochlan very well, looked at him carefully and said:
Why? You're going to do something gross, aren't you.
It took some convincing. But eventually she closed her eyes. Lochlan produced the ring. And Charlotte said yes.
She was, it should be noted, delighted by the Amdis platinum ring he had chosen. The moment had been touch and go. The outcome was exactly right.
The Rings
